Vallejo, CA
Keisha, are you from this area originally?
“I grew up in East Oakland, one of the roughest neighborhoods. I moved my children here 16 years ago. I raised all five of my children here. My son just passed away from cancer a couple months ago. He was loving. Mother of five, grandmother of one.”
What’s your take on America right now?
“I think we all need to unite; to understand we don’t have control over what’s going on, but we have control over our own personal actions, and we have a choice to either come together or divide. I choose to come together, because the country is already divided enough. Politically, I would say that we are probably in a heap of trouble. We just have to take it day by day, and hope for the best, and remember not to get caught up in the rhetoric of the world. I’m not concerned with that. The rhetoric is all the racism and division coming from our top leader, but I think that the rest of America, most Americans, don’t agree with him, not even Republicans.”
There’s a great deal of division in the country right now. What’s going to solve that?
“Love, Peace, and togetherness. Uniting in solidarity. That’s the only way we’re going to overcome it, if it’s going to be overcome.”
How do you go about that?
“By being genuinely nice and kind to one another. Treat people how you would like to be treated.”
What would your vision of a great America be like?
“A great America would be a country of free childcare, affordable housing, good paying jobs for everyone, stop the government from robbing us, free medical, and free college too.”
What’s your dream?
“My dream is to leave a legacy here on the Earth of love and charity. I think we all need to help each other.
“I just hope that everyone sees what really is, and start to open their minds, so that America can be great again, truly great. Truly great is love and peace and freedom for everyone, not just for certain privileged people, but for all people.
“I think what’s going on has awakened a lot of people, even people who thought it was going to be the right thing. I’m not really worried about all that. All I can do is my part, continue to be a great mother, a role model, and do what is expected of me which is charity. That’s just me. My nickname is Mother Theresa. I stay positive, even if the world isn’t.”
